All papers filed with the Court of Claims must be filed with the Clerk of the Court in Albany. Once a claim is filed, it will be assigned to a judge in Albany, Binghamton, Buffalo, Hauppauge, New York City, Rochester, Saratoga Springs, Syracuse, Utica, or White Plains - whichever location is closest to the county where the claim arose.

The Albany County Bar Association offers a lawyer referral service by telephone or e-mail, which includes an initial consultation with a lawyer for a nominal fee.
The Legal Project
View information about the Capital District Women's Bar Association Legal Project, which provides free civil legal assistance in Albany, Rensselaer, Saratoga, and Schenectady Counties on a variety of matters including domestic violence and housing.
New York State Bar Association Lawyer Referral
The New York State Bar Association offers a lawyer referral service by telephone, which includes an initial consultation with a lawyer. Referral is free; a nominal fee is charged for the consultation for most types of cases, although it is free for certain types of cases. The service includes most counties; contacts and links to services in the remaining counties are provided.
