It’s exciting to see progress in online access to Illinois court information. While many courts nationwide provide online access to court cases, Illinois has been behind the times on this. Many of the Illinois counties offer good information on their websites such as descriptions of the various court functions, providing online court forms and offering very good self-help resources. However, very little access to online court case information is currently available.
The Circuit Court in McHenry County has launched an excellent court case search site where the general public may search records by case number, ticket number or party name. Results include charge and sentence information, party names, upcoming court dates and outstanding payment information.
The Clerk’s office also launched an innovative program where court copies may be requested online. While fees for the electronic copies are the same as normal paper copies, the ease and speed of obtaining these records is commendable, as is the reduction in paper waste.
Let’s hear it for McHenry County, and specifically their court clerk’s office. Hopefully the rest of the Illinois court clerks are watching closely. We here at CourtReference will be cheering them on!
